To create a scale 3d model of a fictional inn to be used as reference.
This is a personal project developed for my comic strip, Flatt Bear. I wanted to create a scale 3d model of the inn featured in the comic for the purpose of better visualizing locations and settings for the characters. I wanted to also use it as reference when drawing settings for the characters. This project allowed me the opportunity to explore the capabilities of 3d Studio Max and model building.
The 3d model was created using 3d studio Max 2015. I based the design on a floor plan drawings I found in a vintage house catalog dated between the late 19th and early 20th century. I took the layout of the house and used the dimension that were found for the rooms, then modified the design to suit my needs. Some of the fixtures, such as toilets, trees, and kitchen appliances, were either purchased or downloaded from a third party outlet. All textures were created or modified using Adobe Photoshop CS6. The environmental vegetation was created using a plugin called Itoo Forest Pack Pro. The final model was rendered using the Mental Ray rendering engine.
